Extend the life of your CVT Transmission by Knowing the Warnings

CVT Transmissions

CVT transmissions are unlike the conventional transmissions we have been driving for years. The life expectancy of a CVT transmission is not as long as the conventional transmission. The CVT transmission is not as durable and is very susceptible to many vehicle conditions that can, if not addressed immediately damage the transmission. Listed here are common failures seen at our facility and in the industry that that cause premature transmission failure and can void the warranty. Please take time to understand these areas of concern and educate your customers.

Importance of Tires

Pay close attention to the tires, mismatched tire size on drive axles, whether it is a FWD or AWD will absolutely damage the CVT transmission. This means a badly worn or bald tire on one side with a new tire on the other side will damage the transmission and void the warranty. Please educate your customers about their tires.

Batteries Play A Role Too

Corroded battery terminals and charging system issues will damage the CVT transmission.

Engine Misfires

Severe engine performance issues including bad cylinder misfires, faulty fuel pump and low engine power will damage the CVT transmission.

Brakes – ABS Issues

ABS issues including wheel speed sensors on the drive axles and shorted LED tail lights will prevent the CVT transmission from operating properly. Prolonged use with the condition will damage the CVT transmission.
